Who are we?

We are a non-for-profit organization in which we are looking for the training of competitive professionals, leaders who have ethical values and solid principles. Giving them the necessary tools to have an integral professional development.
Develop education and occupation activities and programs training, in the urban and rural regions of the country. Giving seminars, courses, roundtables, and debates about topics related to education, technology, science, economics, philosophy, and social sciences.
Contribute to the training of competitive professionals, leaders, bearers of solid convictions, ethical and moral values, providing tools that provide facilities for their job competence.
Through the contribution of programs addressed to local and national development, by means of communitarian work or scientific link where we build opportunities for the personal development and training for the occupational life

History of the Foundation

The 80’s

During the 80’s, The Espinoza Family undertook several activities, such as associations with family and close friends who, inspired by social actions, promoted actions in benefit of the most needed ones through low income schools; highlighting its support to the schools’ growth, sports competitions, food delivery, among other activities.

The Espinoza family got interested in supporting education, and it led the execution of agreements with Higher Education Institutions in order to carry out training activities. It resulted in the acquisition of the necessary experiences and knowledge to launch a university.

2000

On May 2nd 2000 they create Universidad Metropolitana as a private law entity, non-for-profit, and with academic, administrative and financial autonomy. It was mainly established in the city of Guayaquil, with headquarters in Quito and Machala.  

2004

Later, in 2004, Dr. Carlos Xavier Espinoza Cordero engaged with his support to education and inclusion of vulnerable groups in the Higher Education System, creates on his own willing Fundación Metropolitana, a non-for-profit organization.

Fundación Metropolitana started its activities in collaboration with the Universidad Metropolitana, giving educational scholarships that will cover enrollment, scholar fees and other university taxes, allowing low income population to access and afford professional training.
The growth and consolidation of both the Fundación and Universidad Metropolitana, have been achieved thanks to the good administrative and financial management of the MsC. Graciela Soria and to the visionary educational management of Dr. Carlos Xavier Espinoza Cordero.  
Nowadays, both institutions have the purpose of contributing to the training of competitive professionals who hold solid convictions ethical and moral values by giving them the necessary tools and facilities for their occupational competence. Creating links with society, citizens’ participation and inclusion, and fostering the research in innovation for its social development.

2020

The educational innovation that is committed for the educational development through international trends and technological means, has resulted in more than 45 institutional projects of linkages and research. In addition to generating a positive impact of the Universidad Metropolitana among the best qualified Higher Education Institutions by the Quality Organization of High Education in Ecuador, reaching the first universities rankings within the institutional evaluation posted in October 2020.

Fundacion Metropolitana, Inc. 2020

Fundación Metropolitana unveiled on July 30, 2020 a headquarters in the city of Lowell, Massachusetts, in the United States of America. It has as objective to foster and carry out high impact projects in the most vulnerable zones of Ecuador and the Latin America region,in addition to promoting the collection of donations, which allow the allocation of funds for educational and socially inclusive projects that help improve the quality of life that meet the demands of historically excluded and vulnerable groups.
